Dear Sir/Madam,
I write to let you know that there are some issues with IBA Finland currently and I would like to see you take some actions as a parent organization. I hope you treat this mail as a confidential one.
There is internal tension in the club due to suspected malpractices regarding the ride verifications of rides done by board members and their friends (=inner circle). One of the board members (Ilpo Juvander) made this issue aware to all IBA Finland members and everyone else reading the forum they host on web. Due to this other board members of IBA Finland now threaten to expel him from the club as a punishment. I don't know if you are aware that for some reason IBA Finland operates as a registered association and all certified riders do join it automatically.
I also find it rather interesting that IBA Finland has created additional rules for official rides like SS2000. The original version doesn't have a minimum distance per a day but the IBA Finland version does have a minimum 1000 miles per a day. That same applies to all multiday rides.
I am looking forward to ride my first Iron Butt ride this year but I don't find it tempting to co-operate nor join a club with that kind of severe issues and local regulations that are not in line with the universal ones. Therefore I am contacting you to make it possible for Finnish riders to send rides for verification to U.S. That would make it possible for Finnish riders to continue with IBA rides without the need to get involved with the local club.
I sincerely hope that you don't forward my name to IBA Finland as Finland is a very small country. Giving out my name might make it unpleasant for me to meet my fellow riders in the future.
Sain sieltä melkein samantien seuraavan vastauksen:
Thank you for your email. I've forwarded it to Mike Kneebone for consideration and action.
The differences in rules has more to do with translation issues and history than anything else. I, too, would prefer to see uniform rules world-wide.
Mike takes ride certification very, very seriously. The value of an IBA certificate is the fact that rides are actually verified and there is a high degree of assurance that one completed the ride claimed. Any suggestion otherwise will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action taken. In the meantime, you and any other rider is more than welcome to submit your rides directly to us for verification. You may submit your ride electronically if you wish by scanning in the documentation and emailing it to
IBAapplication@gmail.com
We accept payment of the fees via International Money Order in US funds, Visa or Mastercard, or by PayPal. If by money order, please remit to the postal address provided on the ride's rules page. If by credit card or PayPal, please provide an email address at which we can reach you. We will do so when the ride passes review.
