Hi.
My first post here as a new owner of 06' 749s.
It's 11.23 pm and trying to put some sense into my actions for past few days.
Well it all started out few days ago when my wife and I were Christmas shopping. We were at a local mall, when a red Ducati pulled up and parked next to our car. I have never seen a Ducati before and I instantly fell in love. During shopping, I couldn't think anything else other than how much I wanted that bike.
Next day, I did the unthinkable from my everyday routine boring life. I went to the Ducati dealer about 30 miles away and came out few hours later with the ownership to my new 749s. I couldn't take it home since I didn't have motorcycle license so I told them that I would pick it up in few days after I got one.
Following day, I went to the local DMV and took the test. I failed 2 times before I passed. DMV issued a permit and off I went. While pulling out from the DMV, I called my insurance agent and within few minutes, I had my new bike fully insured.
Later that night, I told my wife what I have done. I've been happily married 6 years and it was the first time I slept on the couch. (New revelation during night.."I might be going through a mid life crisis at the age of 34)...
***my profile***
34, 5'11, 240lbs, Overweight, big head, last time I was on a bike was 8 yrs ago which I borrowed it from a friend for few days. Have very basic knowledge.
Well, next day, everything cooled down, and wife decides to buy me a riding jacket and pair of gloves before we went to the dealer to pick up the bike.
Again, the dealer was about 30 miles away from where we live so we left early morning so I would be home before dark. My permit only allows me to ride during days.
When we get there, bikes ready to be taken to it's new home. But wait, I forget to buy a helmet so a nice lady from parts came to help me choose one. I needed a 2x large helmet but they only had it up to 1x large. It barely fitted but I told my wife it was a perfect fit since I didn't want to come back again. Oh, by the way, my wife bought me a leather jacket that was 2 sizes smaller so it would give me an insentive to lose weight and wear the jacket.
By this time, they had rolled my bike out to the parking lot so I could take it home. As I put the jacket and helmet on, reality came back and numbness gradually settled in. With no blood circulation to both my head and my body, I slowly pulled out from the dealer with my wife following me in her car.
I made it as far as the next traffic light before I realized that I'll never make it home. I pulled over and told my wife that I felt it would be better if the bike was delivered to our place next day. We went back and made arrangement with the dealer to have the bike delivered.
Just few hours ago, the bike was delivered and WILL learn to enjoy it. Or at least ride it.
Sorry the post was long but just wanted to rant about and give thanks in advance to many stupid question that I might have in future. However, I am going to enroll in Motorcycle safety classes.
